What do you think of when you hear "church membership"? What do you think of when you hear members of the body of Christ? There is a concept of belief that church membership means “I pay my dues, therefore I am entitled to be served”. This is a concept based on a Country Club mentality. It is not a scriptural belief. Rather, choose to serve in the body of Christ as a member of that body and it will function the way God intended it to! Church membership is not based on paying dues or having your needs necessarily met. Rather, it is as it says in 1 Corinthians 12 where it says “For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.” The reason there is disunity in the church is because we aren't functioning as the body of Christ but as a country club where we expect to be heard and served. Can you honestly say that you are members of each other when you neither are involved in furthering the Kingdom of God, nor do you know what the other members are feeling. Think about it… we need to fall on our knees and confess our sin of thinking our way of membership in church is what God wanted. It has been a selfish structure that gives no room for God's plan for unified diversity as each gift of the Spirit is valued. Think about it....
